Chartered Accountants that care
Mat has been a Chartered Accountant for 14 years. He has extensive commercial accounting experience with large companies, as well as hands-on experience working with many small businesses. Mat moved to Hawke’s Bay for a better work/life balance, joining Maxims in 2010 as a senior accountant before purchasing the company in 2015. Moving forward, Mat plans to continue to provide the personal accounting service that founder Pene Johnstone developed. Out of the office Mat’s usually busy chasing his three boys around, or coaching one of their sports teams.
Providing a more personal accountancy service is the driving force behind Maxims’ founder, Pene Johnstone. Pene’s strengths lie in investment property and rural accountancy. When she’s not in the office, you’ll find Pene spending time with her grandchildren at the beach at Waimarmara, or reading a book.
Juliet has joined us from a large accounting firm in Napier. She is a Chartered Accountant and an enrolled barrister and solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand (non-practising). Juliet has previously worked as a lawyer for firms in Napier, Hastings and Wellington before deciding eight years ago to retrain as an accountant. When she’s not crunching numbers at work, Juliet enjoys spending time with her family biking and enjoying other activities in the great outdoors.
Kate has just returned from a volunteer teaching role in India over the summer. She is a qualified teacher, but after spending some time working with us, she enjoyed the work so much and realised she could be an asset to Maxims, so has joined us permanently to pursue a career in Accounting.
